Following the pepper spraying, Katehi claimed that she was open to discuss the incident with students. But when Jerika Heinze, who was pepper sprayed, repeatedly requested to talk to Katehi, she was ignored. After Heinze confronted her in person, Katehi set up an interview, but terminated it early after being pressed about the about her actions on the day of the pepper spraying.
